I DID IT!!!!!!!

I just got back from my first run!!! WOW! Do I feel good; both mentally and physically. I took Kris' advice about running one length between telephone polls and then walking one, but since this was my first exercise in about 6 years and my first run in about 16 years, I walked two and ran one. Tomorrow I plan to walk one, run one. I will probably do that the rest of the week and then next week, I want to move to walking one and running two, and then build up from there.

I fit into one my old sport's bras. Before I met my hubby, I used to take step aerobics about 5-6 days a week. I loved it but it got to be too much with three small children. Now that they are older and I have Fred to help, it is much easier to make the commitment and follow through on it. I have decided that I am not going to let anything else get in the way of running, because I now remember how much better my body feels and how much energy I will have on a daily basis.

I'm not sure how far I went tonight. I have track the mileage in my car since I don't have a pedometer. I'll have to ask Kris how she knows how far she has run each time...

Kris this is all because of you. I didn't think my I would ever consciously decide to let myself sweat again in my life. LOL

I took a before picture, but I refuse to post it until I have cut myself in half. :)

  2. I am having trouble getting my butt out the door tonight. First day back at work after some travelling. I feel like I don't even know where the day went! Went to the gym after work (right after work so I wouldn't get stuck at home) but I hate running the treadmill, so I decided that once it cools off somewhat outside I'd go for an evening run. I think I'd better get cooking soon as it'll be bedtime by the time I finish my 6 miles otherwise. I have been sitting here and watching Ugly Betty episodes (fun show) and knitting my bag for my wonderful pal and wondering if my self-designed bag is going to bomb or not... oh yeah, and I figure I've got to be heading right into premenstrual... oh, it's ugly... BLAH!

  3. I looked forward to my run all day today, but when I got home, I decided to skip a day and ease into the routine. Fred (hubby) said that it's supposed to be very hot tomorrow so I hope I don't regret waiting. My youngest really wanted to run with me tonight and I sent her off to dinner with Fred, so I told her I would wait for her. It's not so bad waiting I guess. I MUST get my butt out there tomorrow though. I am dreaming of that size 10 again! (you know that size that makes you feel fat? BEOTCH. LOL)

  5. I'm so happy with myself. It feels good to be able to sit here and read your post knowing that I DID IT ALREADY!!! :) I drove it on the way home tonight just to check it out. It's is 1/2 mile each way so 1 mile total. Once I move up to running the whole distance I will begin increasing it. Not sure how much I should increase it each time. I guess I will just do what feels right.

My 14 yr old wimped out on me tonight but my 9 and 10 year olds went and they were great running partners. (it's good for them too! better than sitting on the couch!!!)

  6. That's awesome - good for you. The "rule" is generally to increase distance by no more than 10% each week. I agree with your plan, when you are running the whole distance look at increasing it. When I started I used to try to "accumulate" 20 mins of running - so I'd time myself on my watch for all the little running spurts in between poles, and I'd be done after 20 minutes' worth of those. From there I just slowly transitioned to running 20 minutes in a different way - 1 min run 1 min walk, 2 min run 1 min walk, 3 min run, etc., until I could do 10 min run and 1 min walk. The Running Room generally has people do all runs this way - they are called 10&1's. I don't believe this is great, as if you are really needing that 1 min to rest, you are probably running too fast in the 10, and you should be ideally able to run your whole distance but just take the pace down. A pace where you don't need breaks means you are BURNING FAT, whereas a pace where you need breaks means you are working too hard and you are BURNING CARBS and then once those are out of your bloodstream you are using up your own muscle!!
    Anyway, just my 2c.
I have a FAB trainer who works online with you - if you are interested I can give you his contact number. He's online at www.peakcentre.ca if you want to check out the services.

  8. No - we had a storm yesterday evening. I have today off from work. I am going to try to fit it into the busy day but some unexpected crap came up with my hubby so I am not sure I'll be able to! #$%@#@# We're leaving tomorrow for three days at the ocean with the kids. I'll fit it in somewhere I am sure. :)

  9. I so admire the commitment you two have for running. I would love to be able to join you, but I have two very bad knees. No more running for me. But I try to walk regularly. That is challanging enough to find the time to do (am I making excuses? Blush). Even with a dog. However, not it is summer and I have the time, I just need to get off my wide ass and do it. So tell me about your diet? What are you and Kris doing with that? I'm married to a Texan so fighting the fatty food thing has been big. He does all the cooking and I do my share of the eating. Time to make some big changes there, too. I just wonder how I can do that and still have him do all the cooking! LOL! If you have any advise there, I'd love to hear it.

  10. I don't diet. They always make me feel like a failure. This time around, I am just trying to be more active (haven't run in about a week but have been doing A LOT of walking during that time - it's very hot and humid here right now), and I have been eating healthier for Breakfast and Lunch while at work. Dinner is my downfall because we usually only have time for fast food and that's REALLY bad!
